There are over 82 million people in Germany. It is the most densely populated country in the world. The Germans have kept 31% of the country covered with forests and woodlands. There is the feeling of wilderness all around you. That is what makes Germany such a beautiful country.
There is cheese in Germany that is called “Quark”. It is made of skim milk and is thick like yogurt. It is made more for cheesecakes because of the mild taste.
The work week in Germany actually includes Saturdays. The mail gets delivered but most stores close in the early afternoon.
Many Germans own vehicles even though they have one of the best transit systems in the world. They love their vehicles!
You can be hit by a supermodel on a bike several times a day!
There are more than 150 castles in Germany! There are a few that contain aristocrats but most are hotels, restaurants and ruins.

If you are looking for an apartment beware. Un-furnished means no furniture, cabinets, closets, light fixtures or toilets! It would cost you a lot just to rent an apartment and put everything in!

he he he - very amusing. Totally true about the unfurnished apartment. And you are expected to repaint it once you leave otherwise you may not get your deposit back!!!!
I am having an exchange student come to stay with my family for 10 months. I waould like for her stay to be fun,educational, and comfortable please if any one has any suggestions on making her stay easier and less homesick i would greatly appreciate it.

Very interesting tidbits. I find it very interesting that employers want to know everything about you but when you're hired it's not considered polite to ask your colleagues personal questions.
I am German & I didn't even know some of this stuff! These facts are also prefect fom my country assignment!
Most of this is true, but here in Germany most Offices don't work on Saturday, often factorys work 365 days a year with shift working and most shops are open till 10 pm from mondays till saturdays. In small towns or villages shops may close much earlier which means sometimes you'll be forced to shop for food before lunch, but in cities you usually find some areas which offers shops to stay open very long or you can go to a kiosk which often offers daily things as well.
The quality of transport is very good in big cities, but in small towns most people need their cars, because a bus is available each hour only or less during holidays and at weekends. But you are absolutely right, we Germans care for our cars very much.
Most people answer their phone with surname, but the habit of "Hello" conquered many young people and second interesting change: Most of German young adults own a flat and a mobile phone only which support the most used question: "Hello, where are you?"
Most Germans use sheets, but maybe it is different to yours? I don't know.
Schools finishing varies between 1 pm and 5 pm depending on the kind of school. The number of day nurseries for school children increased as less parents are able to care for their children on afternoons.
I am not German, but i was as a 13 year old i am shocked to know that dogs are treated like kings, and also i think that this really interrest.

Why would it be weird to state your name when answering the phone?? That is so much more convenient than just saying "Hello?"...at least one knows immediately whether they got the right number or not!
Personally, it drives me crazy when people just say "Hello"..well, that your name or WHAT???
