Do plants can think? I mean, do plants have brains?  That is a very big question hearing about a smart plant. Scientists finding that plants are a lot savvier than we have given them credit for. Some scientists say plants are smart enough to “consider their environment. Of course not all biologists agree that this is truly intelligence because intelligence is defined as “the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.  Rather they believed that it is chalked up to genetics, a programmed reaction, not conscious thought.  Through scientific study we now know that plants have its ability of self recognition, which is unusual and extraordinary because we still don’t know how plants work. And the big part of intelligence is self-consciousness that can’t be having by plants. Scientist have their recent researches regarding to this, that reveals that like humans, plants have its neurotransmitters a chemical substance, that transmits nerve impulses across a synapse. This study attempt to know how plants grow and how they response to the environment. But the researches lead the scientist to a limited communication with plants and the possibility of reading chemical signs to determine plants’ needs before obvious physical signs appear. Maybe these smart plants can teach us a thing or two about what is usually considered intelligence. Study shows that there are things that smart plants can do.

1.) Smart plants can extract uranium yellowcake from solution – that’s the latest processing development from the company that has developed a new polymer material for the more efficient recovery of uranium in mining operations. During rate studies on the P238 polymer, a number of plant species were screened to determine the ability to store uranium salts in their root systems.

2.) Smart plant can also be help to show farmers when their crops are low on nutrients. The plants, which can be clovers, alfalfa, soybeans or other legumes, have been genetically engineered to include a gene that can sense levels of nutrients in the soil.

3.) The smart plants are edible and can be harvested with the rest of the crop. It can help the farmers and it can be eaten as well.

4.) Smart plants can make their own food, like a strangle weed or dodder it is a parasite that sucks its food from other plants for them to be able to make food.

5.) They can also sense friend, enemy, or food and can make decisions on how to react on its surroundings.

6.) A May apple tree can plan its growth two years in advance based on the computations of the weather.

7.) All plant parts are poisonous except the berries, which are used for treatment of skin cancer and genital warts that can be very helpful to humans.

That is why they are called and considered as smart plants; they can recognize, they can communicate help others and do things for themselves.  Scientists say plants are smart enough to “consider their environment, speculate on the future, conquer territory and enemies and are capable of forethought.
